Five parenting blunders that mothers make

Raising children involves supporting their development, emotionally, socially, physically and even financially from birth to adulthood. The upbringing  of a child determines how successful the child will be in future.

However, some mothers make mistakes in performing their parenting responsibilities. Such mistakes if not corrected can affect the children negatively even as adults.

Here are five parenting blunders that mothers make and how to correct them

1. Presuming that children are perfect

Some mothers believe that their children are always right and do not entertain any negative report about them, instead, they attack whoever points out their children’s wrongdoing. Such mothers see their children as angels, even when they misbehave right under their noses.

However, these mothers are not helping their children as it is easier and more effective to interfere in a child’s life than to counsel an adult whose problem has become part of his life.

2. Idolizing children

Some mothers worship the ground on which their children walk. They treat them as if they are the center of their lives. Children raised up in such scenario can become selfish. They can enslave their parents and manipulate them to be at their beck and call even when they have become adults. Though mothers should shower love on their children and make them happy, they should also draw a line between loving and worshipping them.

3. Overlooking discipline

It is always easier to shower love on children than to discipline them. But to raise children that are upright with good manners and self-control, you need to discipline your children.

In a bid to be good mothers, some moms do not discipline their children. They fail to direct their children to make the right choices in life which are best for them. Such moms overlook their children’s bad behaviors, thinking that correcting them will strain the bond between them and their kids.

It is important that mothers x-ray the causes of their children’s misbehaviors and address such behaviors before they become adults. The trick to showing discipline without seeming harsh is to always communicate your expectations to your children in a calm and loving manner.

4. Over pampering the children

At times we do trivial works that our kids can do without stress, instead of the children who can perfectly perform the task to do it. This act deprives children the learning opportunities that are vital to their development. Mothers who pamper their children excessively spoil them. In as much as you want help our kids out of love, you should also try to nurture the sense of responsibility in them.

5. Living out dreams through children

Some parents regret chances that slip away or goals they pursued but could not achieve, so they try to live out their dreams through their children. Such mothers project their past aspirations into their children. However, pressurizing children to live the lives you choose for them will only prevent them from developing their own identity.

Parenting is a long-term investment, be extra mindful of how you raise your children.
